Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni mean "When Cicadas Cry" also known as "When They Cry" (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni) in the English version.
Summary: On one hot summer day in 1983, a transfer student named Maebara Keiichi comes to a peaceful rural village in Hinamizawa. There, he befriends his classmates Rena, Mion, Rika, and Satoko. Accepted as a full-fledged member of the "club," Keiichi and the gang plays all sorts of activities ranging from card and board games to hide-and-seek. But just as Keiichi was beginning to be assimilated in simple rural life, he stumbles upon the dark history of Hinamizawa. As Keiichi dives deeper into the mystery, he finds that his new found friends may not be all what they claim to be.
Genres: Drama, Horror, Mystery, Psychological
Extreme Graphic Violence
Eposides: 26 (there is also a second season)
Beginning: In Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, there are six main characters who appear in almost every scenario. The main protagonist is Keiichi Maebara, a young boy who has recently moved to Hinamizawa with his family, and begun to adapt to life in the countryside. Keiichi has a natural charisma which allows him to make friends easily. Since Hinamizawa is a small town of about two thousand people, with only a single school, there are not many children around his own age; he easily meets the others his age and becomes friends with them.
Storyline: This horror anime revolves around the main character Keiichi Maebara who moved into Hinamizawa and starts to find out more about the town he is living in. He makes friends with these girls and after awhile he starts to suspects them of "something" and there it turns out very twisted. There are a total of 4 story arches in this anime, so when one finishes, the next one is completely different but somewhat the same. The characters are the same but the storyline changes so don't suspect them to be the same. This anime is a full thriller that keeps you on edge. 7/10
(Note: There are different storyline which may confuse you at first)
Graphics: The characters are normal style but it is a bit shaded in the background. Some of the horror parts are not shown but it is very bloody in some ways. Most of the incedints happen at night but he does goto school in the daytime. 8/10
Music: The music is pretty well made for the anime with its dramatic sounds that ampify the horror that will come. The music made this anime really if not the graphics or character development. 9/10
Characters: The characters aren't explained very well in dept, its mostly the horror that is going on in that town really instead of characters. Since its most psychological, its really about how the character should react to situations. 8/10
Overall: This is the question part of the anime and basically its the most scariest. Anime really winds up one person or many people dyin at the end of the arc. I would advise you to also watch the second season since its more conforting to know all of these questions will be answered for the arc. 8/10

Review
I like this anime alot, it thrills me as much as it fighten me XD
Theres a season 3 coming up next "soon" wondering wat they are showing, cause their ending never seems to be the real ending.
They even have an offical real life movie.
Overall i would give 9/10
why not full marks even thought i like it alot?
ANS:cause not all the arcs are in the anime and manga, to know all the arcs well you need to watch the anime(i have watched), read the manga(i have read some and own three of the question arc manga) and play the game itself(which i dont have, cos my area never sell)
*Manga have additional feature that anime dont have*
and Serph since u have watch this anime would u like to join the FC?

about this part, its because of the CD version, they blacken out the "digusting" part. Therefore the DVD version(which i nvr watch) remove the Blacken Area showing you all the horrors. Some of the horror parts are not shown but it is very bloody in some ways.
